Highlights
Discover the allure of MalaMala Reserve, a private gem in South Africa’s Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Spanning 33,000 acres, this sanctuary offers phenomenal wildlife encounters with the Big Five, guided by skilled experts. Engage in adventure activities and capture the essence of the wild with a photographic safari. Luxuriate in accommodations seamlessly blending comfort and nature, complemented by fine dining. MalaMala beckons, promising an exclusive escape into the heart of Africa’s untamed wilderness, where each moment invites you to witness the extraordinary. MalaMala Reserve offers the following highlights to those who visit
1. Private Game Reserve
The advantage of a private game reserve is the exclusivity of the safari experience. Only guests who stay at one of the three MalaMala camps traverse this terrain, meaning no other vehicles are allowed in the reserve. This ensures that a minimal number of vehicles are encountered during game drives, resulting in more sightings of undisturbed wildlife. With no set time limit, your game drive can lapse into nightfall when nocturnal creatures come out of hiding. Unlike the confinement within national parks, safari guides are permitted to venture off-road and off the beaten track which enables a closer and more intimate level of contact with the animals.
2. Phenomenal Wildlife Viewing
The reserve supports a vast variety of wildlife and boasts the finest and most consistent Big Five game viewing in the Southern Hemisphere, including all of the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion and rhino) and a host of other mammals, reptiles and birds. It is known to have one of the highest densities of wildlife in Southern Africa.
3. Highly skilled Safari Guides
The guides and rangers employed by the reserve are extensively trained and of the highest caliber. Their skill in the bushveld is immediately apparent and their knowledge of the terrain, wildlife, and plantlife is unparalleled. They are known to be extremely professional, charismatic, and friendly, and go out of their way to provide you with the best possible safari experience imaginable.
4. Adventure Activities
Other than being known for its exceptional game viewing, the reserve offers a range of interesting and unique activities such as hot air ballooning, providing a spectacular aerial panorama of the landscape. Guided bush walks offer an exhilarating blend of education and adventure, where each step promises both knowledge and the thrill of unexpected wildlife encounters. Decipher the fine nuances of animal spoor by learning the ancient Khoisan skill of animal tracking.
5. Photographic Safari
Pioneering the photographic safari experience, Mala Mala has spent many patient years acclimatizing their game to the human presence and safari vehicles. With very little regard to our camera-wielding guests, the big game especially, allows you to get very close to the animals.
With only 3 camps, the park has a small human footprint and a low density of vehicles. On 95% of the reserve there are no access roads, power lines or structures and because of the fewer limits on off-road driving, game drives take you off the beaten track and into the heart of the action. The park has multiple habitats enabling a great diversity of settings and scenes, including a 16-mile stretch of river frontage where often intense interactions between animals take place.
6. Luxury Accommodations
The reserve has only 3 camps, all of which differ in style, but equal in comfort and luxury. Set on the Sand River, which attracts a multitude of game, big and small. The camps are unfenced and designed to maximize interaction with the activity on the banks below. Each is a heavenly oasis, stylish, exclusive, and set in the heart of the bush.
MalaMala Rattray’s Camp is a colonial-style lodge with luxuriously spacious frees-standing suites each with private plunge pools, while MalaMala Sable Camp is a more intimate lodge for those seeking a secluded and private safari experience. MalaMala Camp is elegant and luxurious with stunning views of the Sand River and surrounding landscape.
7. Fine Dining
Gourmet chefs prepare exquisite meals at each of the three MalaMala camps, showcasing a mix of both local and international cuisine. Savor romantic candlelit dinners in these elegant settings or laid-back fireside feasts amidst the wild bushveld under the African sky. Meals can be personalized to cater to all dietary needs and tastes.
Conclusion
MalaMala stands out for its exceptional biodiversity and commitment to sustainable conservation practices. The reserve’s vast and unfenced wilderness allows for unrestricted movement of wildlife, offering visitors a front-row seat to the untamed beauty of the African savannah. MalaMala’s expert guides and trackers enhance the safari experience with their deep knowledge and passion for the region’s flora and fauna. With luxurious accommodations, world-class hospitality, and the chance to witness the renowned Big Five in their natural habitat, a safari at MalaMala becomes a transformative journey, fostering a profound appreciation for life in the wild. This reserve not only ensures an unforgettable adventure but also contributes to the vital preservation of Africa’s extraordinary wildlife heritage.
