Nearly 3 million years ago Ngorongoro rose alongside Kilimanjaro as one of the highest peaks in Africa. Now all that remains is an intact volcanic caldera comprising nourishing and fertile grasslands, lakes, woodlands, and forest.
These diverse ecosystems have created a haven for Africa’s wildlife and ensure’s that your game drive will be noteworthy. Endangered black rhino are protected within the crater walls and the highest density of lion in Africa is said to call this sanctuary their home. The black rhino which is endemic to Southern & Eastern Africa is a rare sight and the Ngorongoro Crater conservation authority works tirelessly to ensure their protection.

This includes zebra, buffalo, plains game, to name just a few, not to mention the predators that hunt them. This is a safari destination like no other. Not only is Ngorongoro Crater the perfect place to view the Big 5, but it is also a birders paradise with over 500 bird species seeking refuge within the caldera.
Lake Magadi, situated in the center of the crater offers sustenance to a multitude of lesser flamingos, creating a pink hue to the horizon. The soda lake is the primary source of water and nourishment for many species. And is a perfect place to view the wildlife, surrounded by the crater rim on all sides and joined by vast numbers of game making their way to the water, this is truly a sight that memories are made of.
