Golf courses featured on this journey
Cape Kidnappers Golf Course
Golf at Cape Kidnappers
WORLD RANKING #22
Designed by legendary golf architect Tom Doak, the Cape Kidnappers par 71 golf course measures 7,147 yards (6,569 meters) and will challenge golfers of all skill levels. Completed in 2004, our spectacular New Zealand golf course has been hailed as one of the great modern marvels in golf. Built on a ridge-and-valley landscape and with stunning sea views, Cape Kidnappers Golf Course plays high above the ocean atop dramatic cliffs.
Golf at Kauri Cliffs
WORLD RANKING #43
Kauri Cliffs was designed and built by David Harman of Golf Course Consultants, Orlando, Florida. The par 72 championship golf course measures 7,139 yards / 6,528 metres and offers five sets of tees to challenge every skill level. Fifteen holes view the Pacific Ocean, six of which are played alongside cliffs which plunge to the sea. The beautiful inland holes wind through marsh, forest and farmland. Kauri Cliffs is currently ranked #43 in the world by Golf Digest Top 100 Greatest Golf Courses in the World.
Jack's Point
WORLD RANKING #44
John Darby, a New Zealand land planner and golf architect, routed Jack’s Point from a valley clubhouse up onto a plateau and down again to offer sterling views of Lake Wakatipu and the mile-high Remarkables Mountains. Many have likened Jack’s Point opening uphill holes to those of Gullane in Scotland. But Darius Oliver of Golf Digest Australia is less enamored, writing: “Darby decided to attack the hills and get his holes as quickly and as close to the [lake] edge as he possibly could. The result is at times an awkward mix of quite spectacular golf with some difficult uphill and downhill slogs.” Our ranking would suggest Oliver’s is the minority opinion.
The Hills Golf Course
RANKED #6 IN NEW ZEALAND
Sir Michael Hill’s private golf course in Arrowtown was designed by Darby Partners and opened in 2007 to host The New Zealand Open. Set over 500 acres of land across a glacial valley. The Hills is home to an incredible array of flora including native brown top grasses and wild native mountain tussocks. Sculptures crafted by New Zealand artists compliment the natural beauty of the course’s lakes, waterways, and wetland areas. The 6596-meter par 72 championship course features numerous elevated tees offering players an excellent view of the challenge ahead and 360-degree views of spectacular snow-capped mountain scenery. There are no parallel fairways and no two holes alike.
