Each luxurious, free-standing suite, known as a “Khaya” (the Zulu word for home), measures roughly 128 square meters in size. These expansive private havens are tastefully imbued with hand-selected furnishings and all feature a private verandah with sweeping views of the wildlife abundant Sand River below as well as their very own private heated plunge pool.

Suite interiors offer lavish “his” and “hers” bathrooms complete with the quintessential ball and claw foot bathtub plus a double indoor shower, and for year-round comfort, suites also include 24-hour temperature control via air conditioning, fans, and underfloor heating.

It’s worth noting that at MalaMala Rattray’s Camp, the official check in time for all guests is usually scheduled for 14:00 in the afternoon, while check out is at 11:00 in the morning.

At Rattray’s Camp, ensuring an exclusive, intimate experience for all guests during their wildlife safari adventure is the number one priority.

In order to keep the highly sought after Big Five encounters both unhurried and personal, the wilderness guide team strictly limits the number of guests per safari vehicle to six passengers, making driving excursions particularly ideal for parties of 4-6 guests travelling together.

In regard to suite capacity, Rattray’s Camp can comfortably accommodate a maximum of 16 guests across its eight luxury campground suites, however, triple sharing is permitted in a maximum of two suites, pending availability.

MalaMala Rattray’s Camp can conveniently be accessed by either road or air, and each option provides a direct route into the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve.

For travelers arriving by air exclusively, however, daily scheduled flight services with Federal Air operate from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and fly directly to the MalaMala Airstrip (AAM). Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by ground staff and escorted directly to the MalaMala campsite to begin their safari adventure.
