A world of woodlands and water channels, famous for its huge concentration of elephants and excellent game viewing. The Savuti river is also known as the secret river as it may disappear for up to 20 years at a time before reappearing. This is due to a fault line in the earth’s crust. Both the Savuti and Linyanti rivers dominate this region, providing life-sustaining water to the wildlife moving between the Chobe region and the Delta.

Your senses will be in overdrive as you walk through the rainforest to witness the sheer beauty of the largest expanse of falling water in the world. The pristine rain forest is sustained year-round by the spray created by the thundering falls. As one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the world, the falls spans just over a mile and is split between Zambia and Zimbabwe and can be seen from both countries.

With its varied habitats of woodlands, dry river beds, river marshes, and rocky outcrops, the Zambezi National Park is home to a large variety of wildlife, including lion, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and several antelope species such as eland, kudu, waterbuck, impala, and Zimbabwe’s national animal, the majestic sable.

Living on the edge

Livingstone Island lies on the very edge of the cavernous gorge, next to the mighty Falls as it plunges over the rockface. Shrouded in the misty spray and guarded by tall trees, it is often visited by hippos and elephants. Devil’s and Angel’s pools are only accessible from the Island and are natural infinity pools situated on the edge of the abyss. Few things compare to sitting on the edge of the mighty falls with the rushing power of the Zambezi river all around you.
